แง้มใจ Ngem Jai (An Opening in the Heart)

Note: To take one’s heart and put it in another’s heart is a Thai saying (so you can see each other’s perspective.) This idea also comes up in the song กันชนหมา Gan Chon Ma (Bumper Dog), where you take the heart of a dog and put it in a person, to see things from the dog’s perspective. The word for “crack” in this song is like when you crack a door open a little bit.

*”ก็ลดตัวลงหน่อย มาจับเข่าคุยกัน” literally means, “And lower your body and come grab your knees and talk with each other.” So I am imagining that they are sitting the way that Thai people can “sit” but most Westerners can’t. Which is “resting on one’s haunches” except with feet flat on the floor, and arms stretched out resting on the knees. And the “จับเข่าคุยกัน” part (“grab your knees and talk with each other”) is a saying that together means “have a heart to heart.”
