English translation of lyrics (เนื้อเพลงแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ):

ยามเดือนเลื่อนลาคราโลกหลับไหล
yaam deuan lêuan laa kraa lôhk làp lăi
When the moon wanes, when the world sleeps
กลิ่นคราบเหงื่อไคล…ยังไม่จากจาง
glìn krâap ngèua klai … yang mâi jàak jaang
The smell and stain of sweat still doesn’t fade away
สองแขน สองเข่า สองเท้ายังมีพลัง
sŏng kăen sŏng kào sŏng táo yang mee pá-lang
Two arms, two knees, two feet still have strength

คนใช้แรงงาน พวกฉันนั้นมิเคยหมด
kon chái raeng ngaan pûak chăn nán mí koie mòt
The labors like us never run out of
เหงื่อที่รินหยดรดร่างผ่านยังพสุธี
ngèua têe rin yòt rót râang pàan yang pa-sù-tee
the sweat that drips down the body to the ground

Whoever gives a thought [for] the coolies like us?
เม็ดข้าวที่ผ่านไหล่ฉันเลี้ยงคนตั้งหลายแสน
mét kâao têe pàan lài chăn líang kon dtâng lăai săen
The rice that I have shouldered** provides for many, many people
พวกท่านอิ่มฉันชิมแต่ความแร้นแค้น
pûak tâan ìm chăn chim dtàe kwaam ráen-káen
You people are full, I taste only poverty.
เหนื่อยล้า ท้องกิ่ว เมื่อความหิวมันตามทวง
nèuay láa tóng gìw mêua kwaam hĭw man dtaam tuang
[I’m] exhausted. [My] stomach is empty when hunger starts demanding.

หากขาดพวกฉันท่านคงได้คิด
hàak kàat pûak chăn tâan kong dâai kít
If [you] had to do without us, [you]’d realize . . .
ฉันไม่มีสิทธิ์ คิดไกลไปใหญ่หลวง
chăn mâi mee sìt kít glai bpai yài lŭang
I don’t have the right to dream too far
มีข้าวป้อนปาก…สามมื้อถือได้ดังทรวง
mee kâao bpôn bpàak … săam méu tĕu dâai dang suang
I have rice to feed my mouth . . . three meals is enough

[spoken, by an overseer] Hey! Quickly. Hurry up!
ทํางาน ทํางาน ร้องเพลงอยู่ได้
tam ngaan tam ngaan róng playng yòo dâai
Work! Work! There you are just singing!
สิ่งที่หวงของใครฉันไม่ต้องการ
sìng têe hŭang kŏng krai chăn mâi dtông gaan
[Spoken by laborer]: The things everyone wants, [it seems] I don’t need.

*I am told that หนังหุ้มกระดูก (the skin covering the bones) is an expression meaning ‘skinny’; but หนังหุ้มเนื้อ (the skin covering the flesh) is used instead so that เนื้อ will rhyme with เกื้อ เอื้อ. So in this case หนังหุ้มเนื้อ means “skinny.”
