kwaam rák kwaam kâo jai krai jà mee mĕuan chăn bâang
Love and understanding. Who has something similar to me?
ร่างอันโดดเดี่ยว ลุยมาโด่ๆ
râang an dòht dìeow lui maa dòh dòh
I’m a lonely figure, wading along, [still] standing tall
ไม่ใหญ่โตอย่างใครเขา

[She] wants to drive a car such that it looks stylish

ความรักเริ่มสุกงอม สู้ถนอมรักไม่จืด

Love starts to ripen. Fighting to preserve love isn’t boring.

yêut rá-yá yaao bâan èek nèung lăng
[She] stretches out the terms [to demand] yet another house
ถ้าไม่มีไม่แต่งงาน
tâa mâi mee mâi dtàeng ngaan
If [she] doesn’t have it, she won’t marry [me]
ทาวน์เฮาส์ก็ยังดี กว่าที่เราเช่าเขาอยู่
taao-hao gôr yang dee gwàa têe rao châo kăo yòo
The townhouse would be even better than what I rent for her now

[I] try to buy a second-hand vehicle

paying in installments on both the home and the car
กว่าจะได้แต่งงาน เหนียงแทบยานเนื้อแทบย่น
gwàa jà dâai dtàeng ngaan nĭang tâep yaan néua tâep yôn
Before [I] can get married, [my] chin is kind of saggy, my flesh is almost flabby,
เธอจึงเห็นใจ รักบริสุทธิ์
ter jeung hĕn jai rák bor-rí-sùt
consequently she [now] has an understanding for pure, virgin love,
ให้บวชก่อนแล้วค่อยเบียด
hâi bùat gòn láew kôi bìat
so [I’ll] get ordained first [as a monk], then [I’ll] gradually squeeze in***

* We will make the downpayment? Alternatively, this may refer to a prefab home. These are wild guesses based on my googling.
**The “mia noi” or “smaller wife,” which is a girlfriend that a married man also supports, a common practice in Thailand.
*** A fellow translator explains this last line: “[Y]ou do the monk thing first, survive the celibacy, then can give in to sexuality because you’ve already made your merit and cleared your karma.”
