Baw Ye-ya Joi (No Big Deal)

Aed Carabao
Album: กันชนหมา ‎Gan Chon Ma (Bumper Dog) (2012)
English translation of lyrics
This album is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. BUY IT HERE at eThaiCD, where you can shop in English.

Note: Another totally awesome song from Aed Carabao’s perfect กันชนหมา (Bumper Dog) solo album. *Khun Aed says his mother spoke Chinese and “Baw Ye-Ya Joi” was something his mother used to say and it means ไม่ เท่าไหร่  “Mai taorai” which I will translate as “Not much” or “No big deal.”

gèrt maa bpen kon yôm mee bàat plăe mâi mee têe gaai gôr mee têe jai
I was born a person likely to have wounds – not on my body, but on my heart
kom rák gôr mĕuan kom mêet grèet léuk suang nai
Sharp love is like a sharp knife stabbed deep in the chest
kom mêet nai krua bàat kon tam krua jèp bpùat mâi naan dĭeow man gôr hăai
A sharp knife in the kitchen cuts the cook. It hurts, but in a short time it will heal
dtàe kom rák bàat léuk plăe jai hăai yâak hăai yen
But sharp love cuts deeply, wounds the heart. Recovery is difficult
kun ben kon nèung măi têe jer rêuang bàep née
Are you a person who meets with this sort of thing?
koie bplòi waang dâai măi tam mâi róo mâi hĕn
Can you ever let it go (not take it to heart)? Pretend you don’t know or see?
a-rai jà gèrt gôr hâi man gèrt a-rai jà bpen gôr hâi man bpen
Whatever will happen, OK let it happen. Whatever will be, let it be.
mâi bpen wák bpen wayn. bòr ye-yá jòi
Not go over and over it. No big deal.

man yôo têe dtua rao ayng kăo jai wâa gaan lòk luang bpen rêuang ngôh klăo
It’s up to ourselves to understand that to cheat and deceive is a foolish affair.
kăo tam chayn née gàp rao láew jà sŏn tam-mai dtua rao ayng keu sàt-dtroo pôo nâa glua
[If] someone does like this to us, then why pay attention [to them]? We can be our own worst enemy.*
pôo kây-má-kăeng róo chá-ná róo a-pai yàa bpai mong lôhk nai ngâe ráai jong chái hàyt pŏn
A strong person knows to overcome, knows to forgive. Don’t go looking at the world pessimistically; [you] should use reason
won way-laa hâi bòt rian kuan jòt jam wái dtàe yàa hâi man bàn tam ráai jai dton
The circle of time offers a lesson: [you] should remember [what happened]. But don’t let it cut and do harm to your own heart.
kon têe ror rao yòo yang mee kon dee dee têe mee hàyt pŏn
There are still people waiting for us—really good people, who have reason.
yàa bpai túk gang-won. bòr ye-yá jòi
Don’t agonize [over it].** No big deal.

kwaam pâai páe jà bplae bpen pá-lang săn sâang chee-wít mee lăai taang táa nâa pà-chern
Defeat will translate into strength [to?] choose and create. Life has many paths, challenges worth confronting
krai kon nán àat bpen néua kôo krai kon née àat bpen rêuang bang-ern
That person there might be a match. This person here might be another story

The path someone takes, it’s a separate walk. No big deal
