หนอยแหน่ะ Noi-Nae! (How Dare You!)

By ยืนยง โอภากุล Yuenyong Opakul, aka แอ๊ด คาราบาว Add Carabao
Album: ขี้เมา Kee Mao (The Drunken Uncle) (1981)
This album is the first Carabao album; it is HIGHLY recommended for fans. Newcomers should probably start with a later album. BUY IT HERE at eThaiCD.com, where you can shop in English.

NOTE: According the Thai discussion board Pantip, this word “หนอยแหน่ะ” “Noi-Nae!” is some sort of interjection (like “Hey!”) that is shouted when someone is provoked and they plan to get even. The example given was two cartoon fighters with one shouting “Noi-nae!” when he is hit. Apparently, there is no exact equivalent, but “HEY!” and “How dare You!” or “Just you wait!” are close. This song on the first album Kee Mao, stands on its own, but also sounds like a warmup for two much bigger hits that would appear within four years: มหาลัย [มหาหลอก] Mahalai [Maha Lok] (University [Great Big Rip-off]) on Made in Thailand and ซาอุดร Sa-Udon on Amerigoy.

I will fly off in a plane to Saudi Arabia** . . . Just you wait!

*บ้านป่า and ที่กันดาร both mean the same thing, “way out in the country, far from civilization”
**He will fly off to work in Saudi Arabai where many Thais at that time emigrated to find work. See also ราชาเงินผ่อน “Rachaa Ngern Pon” (King of Credit), which says “Thailand isn’t the Middle East/ When [I] see a friend go there [to work], I am frightened!”
