English translation of lyrics (เนื้อเพลงแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ):

Note: Add says in a recent interview that this song “was taking a stab at higher-ups in the military. It was fun to listen to. But actually it sent moral support to the soldiers at the lower levels.” Translation note: The actual name of the letter “ท” (a “T”) in Thai, is “Taw Tahaan” [“Taw” showing the sound the “T” makes and “Tahaan” (meaning “soldier”) being the iconic word using that letter]. All the names of letters have this pattern, like if English speakers named our letters “Bee-ball” or “Zee-zebra.” So “Taw Tahaan” has an “S is for Soldier” connotation. All through the song, the soldier is called a “Taw Tahaan” (S is for Soldier). I translate it simply as “soldier” but the soldier called to mind could be an iconic cartoon soldier from first-grade reading books, the one that represents the letter “T” (ท).

*He can shoot for stars on his shoulders [epaulettes] which would lead him to a better life. There is a word play in that ดาว in the preceding line refers to stars in the sky but (ดาว)ติดบ่า means “stars attached to the shoulders” or epaulettes, for commissioned officiers.

** “ติดแล้ว” (“once attached”) here means is referring to the stars, which are attached to the shoulder. So I translate, “he gets his stars”.

***The point, I believe, is that the onlooker (or maybe a superior officer) is callous to the plight of the poor soldier, thinking, “What a great opportunity for lower-class people.” He is not thinking that the soldier is sacrificing for the sake of the country.
