Krasiao

Aed Carabao
Hen Mai Bua Loy (Do You See This, Bua Loy?) (2014)

Musically, and poetically, this album is as good as any Aed Carabao has ever made. READ THE ALBUM REVIEW HERE. And BUY THE ALBUM HERE at eThaiCD.com

Note: Krasiao is a huge lake behind an earthen dam in Suphan Buri Province. It is also the name of the river flowing into the lake, and the name of the dam. Matching this song, the tourist info on Krasiao describes an amazingly beautiful place where one can get back in touch with nature.

krai wâa chêu nán săm-kan chà năi
Someone asks, “That name, why is it important?”*
chăn wâa kwaam măai man săm-kan gwàa
I think [it’s] meaning is more important
gaan kráng nèung têe nân têe chăn pàan maa
That time when I passed through
jai man râm róng wâa pàan póp láe pòok pan
[my] heart called out to encounter and bond**

pòok pan pòok yohng bprà-dohng nai àang grà-sĭeow
Bond and connect. The small canal in the basin of Krasiao
yòt náam yòt dieow ruam gan bpen beung náam săi
Single drops of water combine to be a clear lagoon
têe nêe têe dieow têe făn chăn bin dâai glai
Right here, this one place, where my dreams can soar far
wérng náam gwâang yài jòt fáa má-hăa ná-tee
A vast river stretching to the horizon of the great lake

făn rái jùt măai mâi yom glàp fàng sàk tee
Dreaming without any goal, unwilling to return to the shore ever again

dang nók pòk pĭn bin fàa paa-yú
Like a bird turns round to fly through the storm
yôm dâai rian róo pá-lang tam-má-châat
One may learn strength from nature
nèuay nák gôr pák pòn mee chee-wít mee oh-gàat
[If] weary, then rest. [You] have life, [so you] have opportunity

[As for the] dreams that miss their aim, [oh well . . .]. there is more than one Buddhist holiday.***

* I was told “ฉะไหน” is a misspelling of “ไฉน” and it just is a question word.
** “ผูกพัน” pòok pan can translated to be bonded, or to bond, or be connected with someone or something.
*** The proverb “There is more than one Buddhist holiday” means “You will have many more opportunities after this” (because there are many Buddhist holidays).
**** The word “talai” sounds a lot like “telay” (the sea) so paired here with “telay” it might not mean anything other than a pretty alliterative sound, but it’s literal meaning is to swerve, slip, or slide.
