Add Carabao is the King of Sam-Cha, sam-cha being a musical style with a drums and cymbals and a rhythm nicely illustrated by this very song. The word “sam-cha” means three “cha’s” as in “cha-cha-cha,” a reference to the Latin influence. Thus “sam-cha” is also spelled “3-cha”. Not all Carabao songs are in the sam-cha style, and the sam-cha style is probably underrepresented at Carabao in English because I am more interested in breadth of musical styles that Add Carabao is able to conquer than in the one style he is most known for. This song references many artists who have contributed to the sam-cha tradition, their songs, and perhaps movies. If it doesn’t makes sense, it’s because the lyrics consist of many references to Thai pop culture all glued together. If you are curious, copy and paste the Thai words you are curious about to see what person or song is being referenced. I have highlighted the artists’ names in orange and song titles in purple so you can copy and paste. Sorry that that only thing I can’t translate is the first half of the first line. Perhaps it is just sam-cha “la la la”?

**The Carabao song “Wanipok” is the band’s first big hit, and a perfect 3-cha song. Add Carabao is very proud that in the early 1980s, this song broke through into Thai discos, an arena that had previously been dominated by foreign music. (Similar to Michael Jackson opening up MTV to black artists.)
***”Surachai’s 3-Cha” is also a Carababao song, but I haven’t translated it yet.
