ผู้ที่ทุกคนรู้จักเขาดี ในฐานะของผู้มั่งคั่ง

A person everyone knew well as a rich person

More cars than a car dealership
บริวารวิ่งกันสับสน

His servants run around willy nilly

dtông líang pôo kon taen fŏong wua kwaai
He must raise people instead of a herd of cattle [that is, he has a herd of workers]

อีกผู้เฒ่าถือไม้เท้าลําไผ่
èek pôo tâo tĕu máai táo lam pài
The other old man carries a bamboo cane
นั่งทอดหายใจอยู่ใต้ต้นดอกจาน
nâng tôt hăai jai yòo dtâi dtôn dòk jaan
[He] sits extending the breath beneath a Dok Jaan tree,
ฝันถึงเมล็ดพืชที่หว่าน
făn tĕung má-lét pêut têe wàan
dreaming about the plant seeds that were sown
เป็นกิจการของเกษตรกร
bpen gìt-jà-gaan kŏng gà-sàyt gon
[He] is in the business of agriculture
เฝ้าดูมดหนูแมลง
fâo doo mót nŏo má-laeng
Watches over the ants, rats, and insects

that pester, nibble, and eat the farm products

If the yeilds this year aren’t as good as past years
ต้องขอความเห็นใจจากเฒ่าไม้ทองคํา
dtông kŏr kwaam hĕn jai jàak tâo máai tong kam
[He] must ask for mercy from Old Gold Cane

The field that Old Bamboo Cane has

As if the sky and rain is persecuting him, he has no product left!
แม่นละหรือที่ว่าฟ้าลิขิต

เฒ่าชราคว้าไม้ไผ่ลำอ่อน
tâo chá-raa kwáa máai pài lam òn
The old man grabs the green bamboo cane
ลุกขึ้นเขียนสะท้อนความในใจ
lúk kêun kĭan din don sà-tón kwaam nai jai
[He] stands up to write [on] the small hill [on the ground] the reflections of his mind:
เรามันจนเราก็จนต่อไป
rao man jon rao gôr jon dtòr bpai
We are poor, we’ll be poor forever
ใครจะรวยเท่าใด ก็ปล่อยให้รวยเสียให้เข็ด
krai jà ruay tâo dai gôr bplòi hâi ruay sĭa hâi kèt
However rich someone is, let their wealth be ruined so they are afraid

*“เฝ้าดูตาม้าตาเรือ” “to watch over the moves of the horse and the boat” is an idiom from chess meaning “carefully”
** It means, “So this is what heaven has destined!?”
