Note: Because in Thai, the pronouns are often left out, I am unclear who is telling the story. Another translator guesses the story is mostly told in the third person. The narrator is narrating the story, empathizing with the niece and sometimes addressing her. However, the refrain, would probably be better translated “Don’t understand! Don’t understand,” leaving it ambiguous as to who doesn’t understand. It’s more like “Why, oh why?!”
เด็กสาวคราวลูกคราวหลาน
A girl, the age of a daughter or niece
หนีออกจากบ้านเหมือนเพื่อนทั้งหลาย
When [she] leaves the house is like all [her] friends
เนื้อตัวรูปร่างดูสดใส
Her appearance looks cheerful
แต่ในดวงใจมืดมนบนแววตา
But in her heart [she] has a gloomy look in her eye
มองหาหนทางจะทำงาน
[She ] looks for a way to be able to work

To go serve food or sell things

When thinking about the matter of studies, [she] feels regretful

She has a problem that people at home are angry and upset

[Her] uncle does NOT understand. And he doesn’t have a heart.

Why even talk about it? No one is going to understand.

How will a small child like this dear niece even get enough to eat?

And the Uncle himself, how can he know so well? A suspicion. The niece suspects
ก็น้าเองก็รู้ดีนี่ไงเพราะว่าน้าจังไรมาก่อนลูกก่อนหลาน
that how he can understand so well is because the uncle was cursed before the niece.
หลานไม่เข้าใจ น้าเองก็ไม่เข้าใจ
The niece doesn’t understand, and Uncle himself also doesn’t understand
ทำไมน้าถึงจังไร มาก่อนลูกก่อนหลาน
Why was Uncle accursed before the niece?
